GE Kujenga is our sustainability program in Africa. The word kujenga means “build” in Swahili, and GE is a partner in building Africa’s sustainable future. Our approach is to Empower people by building valuable skills and Equipping communities with new tools and technology, and to Elevate ideas that are helping to address Africa’s challenges.

At GE, we are committed to Africa’s sustainable development operating under GE’s hallmarks of responsible leadership and operational excellence. Embodying Kujenga means that while we run our businesses, we also ensure that we are making a difference—creating value for societies in ways that also support the Company’s business strategy. As our presence in Africa grows, so does our effort to be responsible citizens in the community.

IT 4 Charity

GE and Shining Hope for Communities (SHOFCO) in collaboration with Kids Comp Camp in Kenya are working together to increase girls’ participation and uptake of careers in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).

GE has a long history of supporting and educating our local communities through various platforms such as GE Volunteer, GE AAF, GE Foundation and GE Girls.  IT for Charity is another way GE SSA is supporting our communities.

IT for Charity or simply IT4C, is an SSA IT program designed to empower less privileged communities by utilizing GE  resources to provide Technology, Training and Connectivity. The program was started in 2012 by the Regional CIO, Sulemana Abubakar after realizing the region was facing technological challenges such as poor & unreliable infrastructure, limited skills and talent and poor IT penetration to the less privileged. Since then, IT4C has grown from one program in Nairobi, Kenya to over 10 programs across SSA.

To-date, the IT 4 Charity program has donated over 300 laptops, 3 ICT labs and conducted IT Literacy Lessons across various SSA countries.
